Magic based
Level 8/24/44 Shock of Blades/Shock of Spikes/Shock of Swords:
All of these spells are magic based and generally are the best direct damage spells at the level
they are being received. You should always have either the highest fire or magic based
damage spells memorized. They have the additional bonus of having a small knockback
component integrated into the spell, thus being very useful for disrupting opponent s spells.

Level 57 Shock of Steel:
This spell is the 2nd best of the magic based direct damage spells and is used on fire resistant
opponents until Black Steel is received. It does 825 damage for 275 mana.

Level 63 Black Steel:
This spell is the best of all magic based direct spells doing 1400 damage for 360 mana. It is
used often as many of the opponents tend to have a higher fire resistance than magic
resistance in high end level areas.

Summoned beings
Level 12/20/29/39/49 Ward Summoned/Expulse Summoned/Dismiss Summoned/Expel
Summoned/Banish Summoned:
All of these spells are magic based and only work on summoned beings like pets, opponents
in The Hole and some others. There are unfortunately not many summoned beings in
Everquest. Should you encounter any summoned opponents, these spells should be used as
they are more efficient than any of the other direct damage spells of the corresponding levels.
Value at level received: 1 (10 against special summoned encounters)
Value at level 65: 1
Level 56 Exile Summoned:
This spell works against summoned beings and does up to 725 damage for 250 mana.
However it is only of use at level 56 as Shock of Steel is more efficient.
Value at level 56: 2 (10 against special summoned encounters)
Value at level 65: 1
Level 60 Banishment:
This spells works against summoned beings and has a strange twist to it. It immediately
destroys any summoned being of level 55. On the negative side it also destroys any corpse the
opponent would have had. Additionally it requires a star ruby (priced at around 70pp) as
reagent. It is one of the spells that explains why druids and magicians are sought for trials in
the Plane of Justice.

Value at level 65: 1 (10 against special summoned encounters)
Level 64 Destroy Summoned:
This is the strongest of the spells used specifically for summoned beings. It does 1200 damage
for 300 mana and thus has the highest efficiency of all direct damage spells.

Dots
Level 44 Elemental Maelstrom:
This is the 2nd best dot mages receive and it causes straight up damage of 350hp and a 250hp
Dot. It is very efficient, however due to the two resistance saves that are performed on this
spell it only has a limited use.

Level 55 Wrath of the Elements:
This is the best dot mages receive and it causes straight up damage of 450hp and a 350hp Dot.
It is very efficient but due to the two resistance saves by the opponent it only has a limited
use. Once the magician reaches level 57 this dot will generally not be used anymore.

4. Alternate Advancement Points
4.1. Overview
Alternate Advancement Points (referred to as AAP in future) is an integral part of enhancing
the capabilities of your magician. The choice which skills to choose is completely left to you.
This section will explain these skills in further detail allowing you to make a better choice.
There are 5 different types of Skills:
- General Skills
- Archetype Skills
- Class Skills
- PoP Advance Skills
- PoP Ability
The following requirements are necessary to allocate any AAP s:
- You need to be at least level 51 to gain AA exp and allocate any AAP s.
- You need to be at least level 55 and have spent 6 points in General Skills to allocate
any AAP s.
- You need to be at least level 59 and have spent 12 points in Archetype Skills to
allocate any AAP s.
- You need to have the PoP expansion to allocate any AAP s for the PoP Advance and
Ability skills. Some of these skills require some of the other skills.
Each point of AAP is comparable to the normal experience required from level 51 to 52.
All Innate skills give 2 points within the stat/resistance per AAP allocated.
Until you get to the Class skills there definately is an optimal path, afterwards it depends
whether you belong to a raiding guild or not.
